Layers & organization

Group placements into layers with visibility and lock controls, drag to regroup and reorder, read the map from the minimap, and manage every saved map in the My Maps gallery.

Layers keep a busy map manageable — hide the trees while you place buildings, lock the terrain so you can't nudge it by accident, and see the whole scene at a glance in the minimap. A new map seeds five default layers, and every placed asset lands on the right one automatically.

The Layers panel#

The Layers · Scene tree fills the left panel. Each layer is a collapsible row with:

  • a colour dot that helps distinguish the layer,
  • the name with inline rename,
  • a count of placements,
  • delete-all-in-layer and remove-layer buttons,
  • a lock padlock, and
  • a visibility eye.

Expand a layer to see its placements as draggable item rows — a grip handle, a glyph, the name (inline-rename), a per-item visibility eye, and a delete button. Placements with no layer (or a layer that no longer exists) collect under an Unassigned pseudo-layer, which appears only when it is non-empty.

The header's + layer button adds a custom "New Group" ready to rename.

Default layers & category routing#

A new map is seeded with five layers — Terrain, Nature, Structures, Props, Boundary. When you place an asset, it is routed to its category's default layer (trees and rocks to Nature, houses and buildings to Structures, fences to Boundary, and anything else to Props). The Brush tab's paints on · <layer> line shows where the active brush will land. A dedicated Roads layer is added automatically when you first paint a road network.

Locking & visibility#

A locked layer still renders, but its placements are excluded from click-picking, marquee selection, erasing, and dragging — so you can build over a fixed base. Hiding a layer (or a single item via its own eye) drops it from the viewport and the minimap.

Drag & drop#

Reorganize with native drag-and-drop:

  • Drop a placement onto a layer header or the drop target to move it into that layer.
  • Drop it onto another item to move it there and insert before that item.
  • Drop it onto Unassigned to clear its layer.

Selection is shared with the viewport: clicking a tree row selects that placement (and scrolls it into view), and selecting in the viewport highlights the row — the tree and the scene always agree.

The minimap#

Below the layers, the minimap is a top-down view with one dot per visible placement coloured by layer. The camera appears as an emerald view cone and position dot that follow your orbit and pan. On very large maps the preview may simplify the number of dots to stay responsive; the saved placements are not removed.

Open My Maps from the project menu's Open all maps entry. It raises a full-screen gallery of every saved map, each card rendering a dot preview of its placements (coloured by layer), an editing now badge on the open map, a ground chip, the name, and a <n> props · updated <when> line.

  • Open / New load into the editor and close the gallery.
  • Rename (the pencil) prompts for a new name and updates the card in place — the same rename you get from a Home card or a Recent maps row.
  • Duplicate forks a <name> copy without opening it.
  • Delete confirms first; deleting the open map falls back to another saved map or a fresh one.
