Managing your email preferences

The two kinds of email we send, how to turn each one off, and what to do when an address has been closed off.

Every email we send carries a preferences link in its footer. That link opens one page listing everything we might send you, and it works whether or not you have an account.

The two kinds of email

  • Newsletter — new packs, release notes, and build write-ups. Opt-in: you only get it if you asked for it.
  • Notes from the founders — the occasional short, personal note after you buy or download something, asking how it went or offering a hand. Opt-out: it is sent because of something you did, so it is on by default and stops the moment you say so. A handful of emails, ever.

Order confirmations, download keys, and sign-in links are not on this page. Those are part of the transaction and are always sent.

Changing your preferences

Open the preferences link in the footer of any recent email. The page shows a switch per kind of email and your current setting for each; nothing changes until you save, so opening the link is safe.

Preference links stay valid for a year. If yours has expired, use the one in a more recent email.

If you are signed in, Account → Profile shows your newsletter status and lets you turn it on or off there.

Unsubscribing from a single email

You do not have to read a settings page to make one thing stop:

  • The unsubscribe link in the newsletter footer opens a page with an unsubscribe button and an optional question about why you are leaving. The reason is optional feedback — skipping it does not hold up the unsubscribe. These links stay valid for a year.
  • If your mail app shows its own unsubscribe button at the top of the message, that works too, in one click and without opening the site.
  • Founder notes carry their own opt-out link. Using it stops those notes only; your account, your downloads, and your newsletter subscription are untouched.

Unsubscribing is safe to repeat. Clicking twice does not undo anything, and it does not delete your account or your purchases.

When a setting cannot be switched back on

Sometimes the preferences page shows an explanation instead of a switch. That happens in two cases, and neither can be reversed from the page:

  • Mail to your address kept bouncing. We stopped sending rather than keep mailing a dead mailbox. If the mailbox works again, change your account's email address — a fresh, verified address starts clean.
  • One of our emails was reported as spam from your address. That is the strongest signal we get, so we stop and we do not ask you to undo it on a web page.

If either happened by mistake, reply to any order email or contact support and a human will sort it out. Signing up again through a form will not lift it.
